La retirada de todo tipo de publicidad sobre este evento incluye la que figuraba en la página web oficial de la Embajada de Canadá en España que ya ha sido eliminada. Como habíamos denunciado, esta promoción de los productos canadienses coincidía plenamente con la temporada de matanza comercial de crías de foca en ese país, y con la campaña mundial de censura a Canadá por dichas matanzas.
Estas organizaciones se dirigieron al Departamento de Relaciones Externas de El Corte Inglés el pasado 29 de marzo señalando la inoportunidad de la campaña y falta de sensibilidad medioambiental ante un asunto que ofende a tantas personas y más aún en las fechas elegidas para la promoción. Y ahora estas mismas organizaciones, agradecen la rápida respuesta y reacción de estos grandes almacenes, que con toda probabilidad programaron la campaña sin ser conscientes de que esta coincidía en el tiempo con las fechas de las matanzas de focas.
Asimismo, agradecemos a Productos VISO de Vigo la retirada de la venta de todos sus productos que contenían aceite de foca.
Ambas empresas con su actitud demuestran que en España es perfectamente viable la aprobación de una ley que prohíba la entrada en nuestro país de productos de foca, como ya han hecho múltiples gobiernos de todo el mundo occidental (USA desde 1972), y por tanto pedimos a la Comisión de Medio Ambiente del Congreso de los Diputados que dé luz verde a la propuesta ya presentada en este sentido por el diputado Francisco Garrido.
